What kind of chemical reactions would occur if campers were used not just as a means of transportation, but as a tool to deepen relationships in the community?
For this interview, we spoke with Mr. Yamatani and Ms. Sasaki, who have just moved into Neighbors Yoga, which opened at the end of February 2026, about their actual experience of day camping in a campervan.
Q1: First of all, please introduce yourself and tell us how you decided to go out with the group this time.
Ms. Yamatani: I just moved in at the beginning of March, and I am a web director. I received an invitation to participate in this monitoring program soon after I moved in.
We were still "exploring" each other, but when we organized a pizza party in the lounge on the weekend, I approached Mr. Sasaki, who happened to be in the next room and easy to talk to, as well as other members who were there and whom I thought I would like to get to know better.
Mr. Sasaki: I am a freelance engineer. I had always wanted to ride in a campervan at least once in my life, so it was perfect timing.
Q2: How was your experience from reservation to departure and "on the road"? Were there any points that you felt were unique to campervans?
Sasaki: I had an image of campervans as being large, difficult to drive, and expensive. But in fact, the five of us were surprised to find that the price was more reasonable than we had imagined, around 7,000 to 8,000 yen per person.
Planning in the lounge
Carstay Ebina: The car we rented this time was owned by Nakanishi-san, a super-holder* active mainly in the Tokyo and Kanagawa areas.
(*) A title given to holders with high performance and hospitality within Carstay.
In fact, when we spoke with Mr. Nakanishi, he told us that he has rented out his vehicles to social apartment tenants in the past, and we were impressed when he said, "They are used to the culture of sharing, and they always use the vehicles cleanly, so I feel at ease. We learned that the owner also has confidence in the social apartment community, and we were once again convinced of the compatibility of the two.

The two drivers listening intently to Mr. Nakanishi's explanation
Mr. Sasaki: I was in the front passenger seat to support the driver by checking blind spots and heights on the left side. I was worried about driving on highways in a camper for the first time, so I took the lower road on the way there and back.
On the way there, we stopped at IKEA in Tachikawa for shopping and snacks, but the roof of the parking lot was just barely high enough, so there were a few tense moments (laughs).
Yamatani: The rear seats are facing each other, so even the shaking turns into laughter. At first we thought we would play games at the table, but things would slide around and fall off on curves, so we all ended up chatting and having a good time the whole time (laughs). It felt like a "private living room" was in motion even before we arrived at our destination, and it gave us a sense of togetherness that was different from conventional car rentals.
Inside the car
Q3: How was the actual day camp experience?
Mr. Sasaki: Our destination was a glamping facility in the Sayama area. This time we were day camping, and the great advantage of a campervan is that you can relax facing each other in the car without the hassle of putting up a tarp or tent.
Mr. Yamatani: During the three hours of our stay, we enjoyed BBQ, mulled wine, and bonfires to the fullest. After the day camp was over, it was great that we could all gather in the back seat of the campervan and play board games.
■Q4. the "lounge" of a social apartment and the "inside" of a campervan. Please tell us about the chemistry between the two and the relationship that has deepened during the trip.
Ms. Yamatani: I think the lounge is a place to socialize as we each had our own things to do, but the campervan gave us a sense of togetherness as we spent almost the entire day together with the same purpose.
Through the happenings such as wrong turns and the division of roles at the BBQ, we no longer felt the age difference between us, and before we knew it, we had lost our honorifics and had decided on names for each other.
Normally, we would have been sad when we broke up because we were going back to our respective locations, but we were able to have a lot of fun and go karaoke together without worrying about the last train.
Mr. Sasaki: It was also easy because we didn't have to send them off to their destinations. It was great to have the peace of mind of saying "I'm home" to everyone at the same house (Neighbors Yoga) after the trip was over.
Yamatani: I highly recommend going out in a campervan as a big event for building community and deepening relationships. Residents are accustomed to sharing their living space with each other, so I felt that sharing the space of the campervan was a great match.
We had a lot to talk about both on the way home and after returning home, and as we reported back to the other members, we talked about wanting to go again, which I thought would easily lead to the next event.
Mr. Sasaki: Next time, I would definitely like to stay overnight in a campervan as part of the package.
After the interview
The campervan trip is a new kind of "exchange space" that enriches the community as you step out of the "lounge" of the social apartment and head toward your destination. We were able to see a new form of lifestyle where the everyday and the extraordinary are seamlessly connected.
We at Global Agents will continue to offer exciting proposals that will further expand the lives and experiences of our residents.
We invite you to take advantage of our exclusive resident-only Carstay benefits and experience a "community on the move" with your fellow residents in the lounge!
