Starting Your Social Apartment Journey: Things to Prepare

To people moving into Social Apartment, thank you for choosing us!
This is Ayumi from the Sales Team, and I’ll be guiding you to help you get settled smoothly.

For some of you, moving in might still feel far away and not quite real yet. For others, the big day is just around the corner and maybe making you a little nervous.

I myself used to live in a Social Apartment. This time, I’d like to share my own experience and walk you through how to prepare for your move so that everything goes smoothly.

In this article, we’ll go over the essentials you’ll need: furniture and daily items. Moving is the perfect chance to shape your new space to match your own style. Let’s review the basics together and begin with some furniture ideas!

Must haves for furniture and appliances

必須家具
One of the perks of Social Apartment is that the lounge, kitchen, and other shared areas are fully equipped with furniture and appliances. So unlike moving into a regular apartment where you have to buy everything yourself, here you can start your new life with just the basics.

Unlike a typical share house, Social Apartment is intended for longer-term living. Therefore, while every room is equipped with a closet and air conditioner, you will need to provide some things yourself to suit your lifestyle.

■Essentials

・Bed
・Refrigerator
・Lighting
・Curtains
・Wi-Fi Router
・Slippers

Once you have these basics, you’re ready to start life at Social Apartment. Make sure to use the measurements you took during your viewing to get the right fit for your furniture.

■About the lighting type

The lighting in the room will be either a ceiling light type or a track rail type. Both can be easily purchased at electronics stores or online.

シーリングライト
The ceiling light type is compatible with standard round ceiling lights and pendant lights that attach directly to the ceiling.

ダクトレール
In rooms with the track rail type, spotlights can be attached as shown in the photo. If you prefer to install a ceiling light instead, you can do so by purchasing a conversion plug online.

I also lived in a room with the track rail type, and found that three to four spotlights provided plenty of brightness.

■About Wifi in the room

If you plan to use Wi-Fi in your room, in most cases, you will need to bring your own Wi-Fi router. The internet line has already been installed, so no additional contract with a provider is required. By connecting any router to the power outlet or LAN cable, you can start using the internet immediately.

Other items that may be useful in your Social Apartment life

生活用品
Next, I would like to introduce some household items that you may find useful when living at Social Apartment. These are items that I, as well as many other residents, frequently used during our time living there. These are not essential, but having them will make daily life more comfortable.

■Rice cooker

Owning a rice cooker is optional, but please note that it is not provided in the common areas. The reason is that, due to long and frequent use, maintaining hygiene and sharing among residents is difficult. If you regularly cook rice with a rice cooker, having your own may be the best option.

■Water purifier

Tap water in Japan is safe to drink, but some residents prefer drinking filtered water. A well-known brand is Brita, though various other options are also easily available online.

■Laundry bag

Since laundry rooms are shared,it is recommended to have a bag for carrying your laundry from your room to the laundry area. While baskets are also fine, I find a bag type with handles is more convenient as it keeps both hands free when opening and closing doors. (For reference, I personally reused one of the large IKEA bags.)

■Basket

For those who chose a bedroom-type room, it is convenient to have a small basket to carry items to the common areas, for example:

・Bathroom supplies (shampoo, body wash, etc.)
・Cooking ingredients and condiments

In this case, I think a plastic basket is much better since it’s lightweight, water-resistant, and won’t rust. I used to just carry things in my hands, but I’d almost always forget something and have to go back to my room. That’s why keeping everything organized in a basket is so much more convenient.

■Slippers

Some properties allow shoes indoors, while others have a no-shoe rule with a shoe box at the entrance. Regardless of the property type, slippers are essential for walking around inside.

This is a personal preference, but I find that the plastic or rubber slippers usually last longer. Fabric slippers tend to wear out faster and need a bit more care.

We have already explained the essential furniture and items during your tour, but some of the convenient household items introduced here may be new to you.
