Minna no Shokudo" Which Ingredient Will You Choose? Making hot sandwiches for everyone|Neighbors Inokashira Park
Minna no Shokudo" was held for the first time in a year. This year's event was held at one social apartment in the Kanto region and one in the Kansai region, each with two different chefs. This time, one social apartment in the Kanto region and one in the Kansai region were selected to host the event, and two different chefs were invited to each.
Minna no Shokudo" is an event in which chefs are invited to the common kitchen of a social apartment to share a meal with tenants who have gathered from social apartments in various areas, based on the concept of "sharing the same dining table with everyone across the boundaries of the property.
The reason for this is that in the common areas of Social Apartment, such as the kitchen and dining room, residents greet each other with a "Nice to meet you" or casually exchange a conversation with each other, asking "How are you? and "How are you doing?" and casually engage in conversation to deepen their friendship. In such an "everyday" space, if we can cook a delicious meal together, conversation with new friends will naturally and casually start, regardless of whether it is the first time to meet or not. It is with these thoughts and expectations that we hold "Minna no Shokudo" on a regular basis.
This article introduces the "Minna no Shokudo" held at Neighbors Inokashira Park in the Kanto region on October 27!
...
This time, Mr. Furuya, a chef from the restaurant of our hotel ( slash Kawasaki ), gave a lecture on making "hot sandwiches. The young chef, who is also involved in food development, showed us how fun it is to choose ingredients freely, and how a little effort can improve the quality of the ingredients.
The workshop started immediately, dividing into three teams. This time, we delivered the workshop with a variety of levels of familiarity with "cooking," from beginners to those who cook on a daily basis, with content ranging from relatively simple tasks to a little challenging ones. Everyone participated very actively!
18 different ingredients and 5 different sauces
The first team was to divide the ingredients. The first team was to divide the ingredients evenly! The participants were surprised at the number of ingredients that kept coming out one after another, no matter how many they divided. The participants were surprised at the number of ingredients that kept coming out one after another, even after dividing them. They earnestly and carefully divided the ingredients into containers!
The selection of ingredients for the hot sandwiches was a total of 18 kinds. From hearty ingredients such as spare ribs and oven-baked tandoori chicken, to the more traditional ingredients such as avocado, tomato, and cheese, and fruit such as orange...what kind of flavor will the sandwich have? What will it taste like? The sauce is also made of tartar, a kind of sauce made of tartar. In addition, a total of five types of sauces are available, including tartar sauce, salsa sauce, basil mayo, and more.
A name card is also included to complete the buffet of ingredients!
Everyone loves tartar sauce, which do you prefer?
The next team was to make tartar sauce. The tartar sauce that everyone is familiar with is tartar sauce made from boiled eggs. However, boiling an egg takes a long time, and it is difficult to adjust the boiling time to the right level.
So, Mr. Furuya, a chef, invented a new type of tartar sauce and introduced it to us this time. It is a tartar sauce made with a "fried egg" instead of a "boiled egg. A quick-fried egg in a frying pan is easy and time-saving, and it has a different texture and flavor from the tartar sauce made with a boiled egg.
Just mix the stir-fried egg with mayonnaise, onion, consommé, and other seasonings in a bowl, and it is ready in no time at all. In fact, this time we also prepared a tartar sauce made from boiled eggs, so we asked the guests to taste the two different tartar sauces! Which was your favorite?
A little extra effort in the way the chicken is cut!
The last team prepared tandoori chicken. First, a lecture on how to cut chicken, which is not an easy task. All the participants leaned forward to listen to Mr. Furuya's explanation.
The participants quickly got the hang of it and began to carefully cut the chicken. Some of them even said, "I started cooking after I joined Social Apartment! It is no wonder that many of the participants are so enthusiastic about absorbing various knowledge and skills, such as becoming addicted to cooking or trying to master it.
The cut chicken is thoroughly marinated in the tandoori chicken marinade and waited for the seasoning to blend in. When Furuya introduced the recipe for the marinade, the participants took notes diligently. We hope you will try making it with other residents when you return to the property!
Now it's time to put it between the bread... colorful or satisfying?
Now that the ingredients are ready, it's time to get down to the business of making the hot sandwiches. From the 18 ingredients and 5 sauces lined up on the table, each participant chooses his or her favorite ingredient and puts it in the sandwich. Now, what ingredients will you choose to decorate your hot sandwiches?
While conversations about which ingredients to put in the hot sandwiches could be heard everywhere, the participants were trying to come up with a strategy to share the hot sandwiches so that they could eat different kinds of ingredients. Some participants were even making their own arrangements by dividing up among themselves. With such a wide variety of ingredients, it was hard to decide which ones to use and how many to try.
It is easy to overfill the bread a little, but in fact, it is okay to fill it with more ingredients than you think. The secret is to roll up the filling more than twice as tightly with plastic wrap as you imagine. Let them acclimate in the microwave, and then bake them in a pan!
Gather around the dining table and enjoy!
Everyone made a total of 27 hot sandwiches. The leftover ingredients were placed on salad greens to make an instant salad, which was also placed on the table, and then it was time to eat! One of the ways to enjoy the hot sandwiches is to take a peek at each ingredient checklist and try various arrangements of the hot sandwiches.
What kind of conversations were taking place around the hot sandwiches of all kinds, which were laid out all over the table?
This time, 11 social apartment tenants in Kanto applied for and participated in the event! Minna no Shokudo" is scheduled to be held regularly in the future. We are planning to hold "Minna no Shokudo" on a regular basis in the future. We are looking forward to seeing you all!
Thank you very much!
Editor's Postscript
I have lived in a social apartment before. When I think back on the time I spent there, most of my memories are of the time I spent with my loved ones over delicious meals and drinks.
Food is a part of everyday life that we are all familiar with, but I still vividly remember such ordinary, non-dramatic moments as if they were scenes from a TV drama. To sit around a dining table and eat a meal. It may be a very precious thing. And being able to share such a moment with your fellow tenants in a social apartment is a privilege that only those who share this "moment" can enjoy. I couldn't help but think so when I saw the expressions on the faces of the residents who gathered in the kitchen, gathered around the dining table, and enjoyed their meals. I would be more than happy to continue expanding the circle of people connected by food.
