Social Good Neighbors] Jogging x Trash Pickup|Proging Event was held!
The "Social Good Neighbors" project started with the idea of starting to do good things in the world little by little through social apartments, "having fun together".
On a beautiful Sunday in May, we held a morning activity event called "Progging" at HOTEL GRAPHY Shibuya, a hotel that just opened in March this year.
What is plogging?
Plogging is a new fitness activity in which people pick up trash while jogging. The term was coined by combining the Swedish word "plocka upp" (to pick up) and the English word "jogging" (to run). Swedish athlete Erik Ahlström (Erik Ahlström) started it in 2016 as a run dedicated to picking up trash, not personal bests. The activity quickly spread around the world and has now become a huge craze enjoyed in over 100 countries around the world.

On the day of the event, a little less than 30 members, mainly social apartment tenants but also including guests from HOTEL GRAPHY Shibuya, divided into two courses and jogged a distance of about 3 to 4 km in the Shibuya-Ebisu-Daikanyama area, picking up trash as they went.
Even on streets that normally do not seem to have much trash, when we stopped to look inside the sidewalk hedges, we found hot food, box lunches, candy, PET bottles, and alcohol cans that had probably been bought at convenience stores.
Among the most common were cigarette filters and boxes.
According to the smoking rules of Shibuya Ward, smoking on the street is prohibited except in designated smoking areas, so smokers should check the rules once again!
Although we call it "picking up trash while jogging," it is difficult to keep up the pace when you are so enthusiastic about picking up trash. It took us an hour to return home.
The two teams weighed a total of 8 kg of trash!
After working up a good sweat while jogging, the participants toasted and quenched their thirst with smoothies specially made at the hotel's restaurant, GRAPHIC Grill & Bar.
Participants said, "This is a great event where you can exercise, socialize, do something good, and drink healthy smoothies in the morning! Through picking up trash and exercising, I was able to interact with Japanese people who I wouldn't have been able to interact with as a tourist. I want to come back to Japan again! I want to come back to Japan again!
The Social Good Neighbors Project is intended to raise individual awareness and lower the bar for socially good actions and activities by taking a step forward in a "fun" way with others.
In addition to progging, we also pick up trash in areas where social apartments are located, with the hope that our own awareness of picking up trash will change, as well as that of the local residents who see us doing so.
In the future, we intend to develop a variety of activities with a view to interacting with even more local residents and hotel guests.
