Our brand new hotel “The Millennials” just opened its doors on March 15th, 2018 in the bustling Shibuya district in Tokyo.

This new lifestyle hotel features “art pods,” capsules covered in works of art in which guests can spend the night. Each of the twenty art pods at The Millennials Shibuya has been used as a unique individual canvass to showcase original work and create a sleeping space that goes beyond simply getting some shut eye.

Twenty different international artists have participated to this unique project, including Nico Leon from Argentina, a famous comic book artist working for MARVEL and most iconically known for being one of the main illustrators on recent issues of SPIDER-MAN and MS. MARVEL.

Other art pods at the hotel have been used as canvasses by artists predominantly from the world of fashion, graphic design, and illustration. Among them designer/illustrator Stereo Tennis has credits that include works for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and British illustrator Charlene Man has worked with U.K. fashion retailer Topman. The “art pods” at The Millennials Shibuya are available as accommodation, along with 100 regular “smart pods.”

Following the huge success of their first iteration opened last year in Kyoto and attracting the attention from many overseas guests and medias, we finally decided to bring our new concept to the Japanese capital with a first location in the most famous Shibuya district. Both locations of “The Millennials” are targeting the generation of the same name with a reimagining of the capsule hotel based around the values of a generation generally thought to have been born between the early 80s and late 90s/early 2000s.

With a new concept based on “Living in the future”, The Millennials re-imagines the capsule hotel concept through high-tech facilities and technology and social spaces to bring a formerly utilitarian concept into the realm of semi-luxury.

With over 120 multi-functional Smart-Pod units spread over 5 floors of prime Shibuya real-estate, The Millennials provides guests with full control of their personal unit through the integrated iPod touch provided at check-in. These controls correspond to several unique functions, including an alarm system based on bed movement and optional projectors that make use of each unit’s built-in privacy screens.
